Honey Meadows Southdown Babydoll Sheep
Olde English Babydoll Southdown Sheep are a heritage breed. These diminutive animals are wonderful companions, lawnmowers and pets. They make excellent weeders for vinyards and orchards since they don't harm the tree trunks or shrubs (like goats) and don't challenge fencing (like goats!). They are a dual breed used for both meat and wool; fiber is 19-22 microns (in the cashmere range) and blends well with other fibers - it is a hand spinners delight.
Our small flock is registered with NABSSAR, tested yearly for Johnes, and in the NJ State scrapies prevention program. In addition, we do genetic codon testing on each animal for scrapies resistence. Our flock is entirely QR or RR (resistant at codon 171) and we only use RR rams. |
Our ewes are bred to lamb in mid to late spring when we can enjoy them. Many of our lambs go on to either petting zoos or family life where they do very well.
Most lambs are pre-reserved by early fall. If you are interested, let us know - babydolls go fast!
